When I was a kid, I loved the idea of May Day baskets. When I was a teenager, I thought it was so dumb. But now as a parent, I am totally in love with the idea again.
I love the idea of sharing love and friendship through a cute basket. And these cute baskets are easy, cute, and totally fun to put together and give away!
According to the experts at Wikepedia, May Day started in Europe a long, long, long time ago. In America, people fill baskets with flowers and treats, place them on someone’s doorstep, ring the bell and run away.
We may very well leave these on our neighbors’ doors this year, but it’s also fun to leave these on my kid’s bedroom doors. Of course my kids love the treats, but I think it’s a small and fun way to remind them that I love them.
There are so many fun ways to share these baskets! You could:
- give them to neighbors
- share them with your church class
- give them to your kids or spouse with a little love note
- use them for teacher appreciation week with some cookies or a gift card
- let the kids make them and let them give them to their friends
- make them for activity days or another primary/children’s activity
- give them to co-workers or your boss
- share them with the bus driver or mail man
- leave the handle off, and they are fun little storage containers for your office or craft room
There are three basket printables to choose from. They each have the same color scheme so you can change out the handles if you want to. Or just pick your favorite and stick that to that. 
After I made these the first time, I realized we need a tag. Naturally.
So there is also a 2-inch printable gift tag that you can cut out and tie onto your baskets. I used my 2-inch circle punch (<–affiliate link) and it made cutting these tags out a breeze. I love the clean lines that comes with my circle punch.
When I was setting up my photo shoot for this post, my five-year-old told me that she was going to make a basket for my blog too. She got right to work and created this darling basket.
My heart smiles every time I look at it.
This is a project that the kids can definitely get behind. All three of my girls have loved making these baskets and filling them with treats and giving them to their school teachers.
I only feel slightly embarrassed to admit that I filled these baskets with treats that I already had in my home. Yes, I have peanut butter cup cookies, mints, & chocolate kisses just lying around. You know, for emotional emergencies.
But you can fill your baskets with anything! Obviously treats come naturally to me (ahem) but little toys, bubbles, flowers, fruit…anything would be fun to find on your door!
