One of my favorite songs is “The Family Is of God.” I sing it often, mostly off-key, and sometimes my husband makes rap sounds in the background. Because we’re crazy like that.
The message of the song is so inspiring. I love the lyrics:
Our Father has a family. It’s me!
It’s you, all others too: we are His children.
He sent each one of us to earth, through birth,
To live and learn here in fam’lies.
God gave us families to help us become what He wants us to be—
This is how He shares His love, for the fam’ly is of God.
October’s visiting teaching message is “The Family Is Ordained of God.” The opening statement says, “In the words of [the Primary song], ‘The Family Is of God,’ … we are reminded of pure doctrine,” said Carole M. Stephens, First Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency. “We learn not only that the family is of God but also that we are each part of God’s family. … ” (See the rest of her awesome talk here.)
After reading this, I knew I wanted to make a printable that was pretty (of course!), and could be displayed as a constant reminder of why we need families. There is so much joy, pain, struggle, heartache, and growth that comes with being a part of a family. Knowing that the growth we experience in families is part of God’s plan has given me hope and peace while facing the difficult times. I hope this printable does the same for you. ♥
