Cookie Cutter Fudge Gift (+ Free Tags)

I first heard about the idea of gifting fudge in a cookie cutter several years ago from my Aunt Jeannie. She told my mom that she loved to put fudge in a cookie cutter, and then give it to her friends as gifts during the holidays.

This is brilliant for so many reasons. First of all, the fudge. Fudge is such a great gift. It’s totally delicious and decadent. You can make it large batches and it’s pretty easy to make. It’s awesome.

Then there’s the cookie cutters. After the fudge has been eagerly consumed, the recipients of your gift are left with a cute and festive cookie cutter to use year after year. Every year when they pull out their cookie cutter, they will think of you and how awesome you are. It’s a gift that keeps on giving.

And last but not least, the gift tags! These watercolor gift tags are so pretty and perfect for any holiday gift, and they work really well with this fudge.

I bought these plastic cookie cutters at my local Kroger store for a dollar each. But rest assured that metal cookies work great too.

You want a cookie cutter with a pretty simple shape. You need to be able to get fudge in all the crevices, so it’s best to avoid cookie cutters that are really elaborate. Stars, trees, snowmen, etc. all work great.

The first step is cover the bottom of the cookie cutter with aluminum foil. Then lightly spray the cookie cookie with cooking oil. Just a thin layer to help the fudge come out.

Next you will cook your fudge. I used my mom’s awesome recipe, but any fudge recipe will work here.

When the fudge is ready (it’s reached the “soft ball” stage on the stove-top), spoon it into the cookie cutters. Try to fill up the cookie cutter as much as possible and make sure fudge gets in all the corners and edges.

If you want to embellish the fudge with sprinkles, you will want to add them quickly before the fudge starts to set.

Once you added your sprinkles, you will need to let your fudge set. This takes several hours sitting on the counter top, or you can speed up the process by sticking your cookie cutters in the fridge or freezer.

When the fudge is set and you are ready to gift wrap up your cookie cutter fudge, the first step is to gently wipe off any excess fudge that may have leaked out from the aluminum foil.

Then it’s time to take off the aluminum foil from underneath the fudge. At this stage, I like to put a paper doily under my fudge. This makes it so that the fudge won’t make my gift bag dirty if the fudge starts getting warm. And the doily just adds some extra cuteness.

Now all you need to do is cut out your gift tags and wrap up your fudge.

After your fudge is wrapped and ready to go, it’s time to make someone’s day! Get ready for lots of oohs and aahs when you start handing these babies out. You will be the neighborhood rock star.

And for an added bonus, you get to eat the leftover fudge. Yes, life is good.
