As I was walking through a craft store last month, I saw a little flyer from Elmer’s Glue on how to make glitter slime. Intrigued, I picked it up and realized that this recipe only required 3 ingredients: glitter glue, baking soda, and contact lens solution!
So we quickly bought some glitter glue and since then we have made at least 8 batches of this stuff!
And the DIY glitter slime is so fun and it works! We made a few modifications from the original recipe but it really is the easiest way to make homemade slime! I wanted to share it with you in case you haven’t seen the same flier.
And let me tell you a few things about this awesome method of making slime.
First, it doesn’t last forever. It’s awesome when it’s fresh but after a day or two of hard play, it gets pretty stiff. I think this is such a fun idea for parties, but I wouldn’t make it too far in advance.
But it’s not ultra sticky, and that’s really nice! It doesn’t get everywhere and ruin your clothes. Your kids can actually get the stuff off their fingers, making this really glitter slime super user friendly.
And this same method works with white glue. Of course, we love the glittery stuff, but we tried it with regular glue and it worked just fine. But we didn’t have a lot of luck using clear glue. We tried it twice and for some reason, it didn’t work as well.
And lastly, after you store it in an airtight container, it will be a little wet when you pull it out again later. That’s okay. Just play with it for a few seconds and the wetness will go away.
The glitter slime really is the easiest ever!
Just pour the 6-ounce container of glitter glue in a bowl.
Then add 1 tablespoon baking soda and 2 tablespoons contact lens solution.
(Make sure that the contact lens soluction contains boric acid. Most brands do, even my generic equate brand from Walmart, but it’s nice to just double check so you don’t waste your glitter glue ☺)
And that’s it!
Just mix with a spoon and when it starts forming a nice ball, pick it up with your hands and start playing with it. It will come together quickly and easily.
Then the fun begins! My kids (and my neighbor kids) have used and loved this glitter slime for hours of play time fun!
So thanks, Elmer’s, for making glitter glue so easy!
Just to recap:
- 1 (6 oz) container of glitter glue
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons contact lens solution
Have fun! Leave a comment and let me know what you think! Or tag me in Instagram, I love that!
