Mother’s Day is a special holiday. But it can be super difficult for women who don’t have kids, or women who feel estranged from their children. Add the pressure of giving and receiving Mother’s Day gifts, and wowzer. It can be uncomfortable, to say the least.
For years, Mother’s Day was my most dreaded holiday. Thanks to adoption and modern medicine, my husband and I now have three beautiful girls. But I will never forget the pain of our years of infertility, and the day I felt it most keenly was Mother’s Day. I dreaded getting up, I dreaded church, and I hated that I wanted to cry when the youth tried to hand me a dedicated Mother’s Day gift at church. Bah. It happened every.single.year.
But as time has healed that pain, I see that Mother’s Day is a really great day! It’s a day to celebrate women, and how much impact great women have in the lives of those around them. (By the way, I have long felt that Mother’s Day should be renamed “Women’s Day.” Because it’s less about motherhood, and more about mothering, which I think women do naturally.)
With that in mind, I wanted to create a cute Mother’s Day gift idea that you could give to ANY woman, that would gladden her heart and hopefully help her feel loved and appreciated. Of course, chocolate is a must. Because, really. Nothing says “you’re amazing” like chocolate.
