Have you ever played the game Spot It
For the past year or so, I have been seeing different versions of Spot It pop up all over the internet. It made me wonder how a person could make a game like that because it seems so complicated. Then I found this awesome website, RadiganEngineering.com, that explains the math behind the game and why the game works. He also explains how to make a matching game similar to Spot It. I mean, how awesome is that?!
Since reading that post several months ago, I have been planning to make a Christmas matching game, Spot It style, to share with you. I am so excited that my version is done and ready, and just in time for the holidays!
The holidays can be so full of shopping, cooking, parties, and overall stress, sometimes it’s just nice to sit down and play a quick, fun game with the kiddos. Or the adults. My husband and I often challenge each other to a matching game. I hope that makes us fun and not lame. 
The rules and objective of this game are simple. You place place two cards side by side. The first person to find the matching item on the cards calls out the item, and then gets to pick up and keep both cards and put them in their stack. The person with the most cards in their stack when all the cards are gone wins the game.
The coolest thing about this game is that you can pick up any two cards, and there will be one and only one matching item on both cards. It’s brilliant!
As I was making this game, I used a lot of card stock as I printed, made adjustments, and then reprinted. And as I making these cards, I realized that I wanted something cuter to keep them in than a sandwich baggie.
So I decided to make a special box to store the cards in. And I knew I wanted the box to be cute enough that it could double as a gift box as well.
Simply print out the gift box, and score and fold where indicated. There is also a marking for where to put the glue, and then it’s just a matter of folding the box, which is super easy-peazy. I also attached some Velcro to the top of my gift box, to seal the gift box. You could also use magnetic strips, or just leave it as is.
The gift box makes makes it so easy and fun to give this matching game as Christmas gifts to our neighbors and friends. This is such a great gift because it can be played all season long and it creates good memories and traditions.
There is also a fun Christmas graphic that can be printed on the back of the cards. This is optional, of course, but I think it gives the game some extra cuteness.
