Last year was the first time we let the kids stay up until midnight on New Year’s Eve. And like you would expect, the loved it. In fact, my oldest still tells us how much she loved stay up “all night” playing games and eating treats.
But New Year’s Eve is hard for me because I struggle staying awake and engaged until midnight. If I am staying up that late, I want to be watching a show or even better, reading a good book. So to stay up and “party” wipes me out for at least a day or two.
I must be getting old.
But since my kids now know the magic of New Year’s Eve, I wanted to make them someone special to do while we waited for the clock to strike midnight. I am hoping these DIY hats and horns become one of our traditions for many years to come!
These printable hats are SO cute! (They match one of the coloring pages found HERE.)
I let my kids color these hats today so I could take some pictures, and they had a blast. They wore them around the house for a long time and told me how excited they were to wear them again for New Year’s.
I bet all the little people in your life are going to love coloring and putting together these hats too.
The first step is to print them out and let the kids go to town with their markers, crayons, pencils, or pens.
I put a lot of little details on the hat so that the kids could color for a long time.
You’re welcome.
After they are done coloring the hats, it’s time to cut them out. Next, you’ll put some adhesive where it says “glue here,” and fold the hat around until the two paper edges connect and your printable becomes a hat!
Then just glue or staple on some elastic so the hat can stay on their cute little heads. I used about 12 inches of elastic for our hats and that worked out well.
Then it’s on to the horns!
The first thing you will need to do is buy some cheap horns from a dollar store or craft store. We need the whistle, so we are going to cut off the whistle from our store-bought horn and discard everything else.
Making the horn is easy and I have some tips for you to make it a breeze!
With your fun New Year’s Eve hat and horn, you are ready to ring in the new year!
