Inside: Free Taco Printables: “It’s okay if you fall apart sometimes. Tacos fall apart & we still love them.” This free printable is perfect for ministering, gifts, Cinco de Mayo parties, Relief Society, or just for fun anytime.
A few months ago I received an email asking if I could make a printable featuring tacos for an upcoming Relief Society retreat. This sweet sister was going to be serving tacos one night for dinner and she wanted to put a printable on the tables.
I didn’t even need to think twice about it.
Tacos + Relief Society + Printables = Oh yeah, baby. I’m in!
It’s a match made in heaven.
And I la-la-love the taco quote she sent me:
(I did a little research to try and see who this quote belongs to, and I didn’t find anything. But if you know who originally said this quote, let me know so I can give them credit.)
When I showed this printable to my husband, he said it was perfect for our weekend. When I gave him the I-don’t-know-what-you’re-talking-about look, he reminded me that we were going to be serving tacos at Primary Children’s Hospital that weekend.
While my daughter, Samantha, was in the hospital this summer, we were extremely grateful for the Ronald McDonald room at Primary Children’s Hospital. It was so nice to get a delicious, hot meal when we were emotionally distraught. And the people serving the food were always very kind. Our days were long and hard, and eating that homemade meal was like being wrapped up in a comfy blanket. It was a very real and tangible reminder that we weren’t alone.
When Sami was discharged, we decided we would come back and serve a meal, as a small way of saying thanks and giving back.
The week I made this printable we were able to serve tacos at the Ronald McDonald room.
I framed this printable and put it on the counter as we served tacos.
The printable – and the tacos – were a big hit.
(Because seriously. Who doesn’t love tacos?)
And the truth is, it is okay to fall apart sometimes.
I cry all the time. Whenever a touching commercial comes on, everyone knows I’m crying.
But it goes deeper than that.
Life is hard, and all of us are fighting, struggling, and hoping for blessing and miracles for ourselves and our loved ones.
And when the trials come, we’re allowed to say we’re having a hard time.
We can fall apart for a hot, messy, long minute.
A few years ago, BYU had an exhibition that showcased emotions in the scriptures.
It’s fascinating to see just how much emotion is in our scriptures.
One of the exhibition displays revealed that “The Book of Mormon…has the highest percentage of emotion words in the standard works, followed by the New Testament.
The 10 most frequent emotion words found across the standard works? In descending order—love, fear, desire, anger, peace, rejoice, joy, wrath, please, and hate.”
(Read more about that display exhibition HERE.)
I try not to judge myself too harshly for my emotions, even when they’re unwanted emotions.
After all, there are no “good” or “bad” emotions. Emotions are just that: emotions. So when we say, “control your anger,” what we really mean is that you need to control your actions while you are angry.
But feeling sad, upset, frustrated, angry, or distraught is okay when we are dealing with hard things.
Sometimes we just need a little reminder that it’s okay to fall apart sometimes.
And so I hope you can use these free taco printables. Display them in your home as a reminder that you are loved. And it’s okay to fall apart.
Admitting that we’re struggling doesn’t make us complainers. It makes us human who are doing hard things.
And after we fall apart, we pick ourselves back up and fall to our knees, turning to the One who heals all wounds, and knows and loves us perfectly.
So I hope you can use these free taco printables as a reminder that you’re loved. Or maybe you know someone who could use some love. You can use these free printables for your ministering efforts, or give them as gifts as you share goodness.
I think attaching these this printable to a taco seasoning packet or a jar of salsa is the perfect, inexpensive, and thoughtful gift for a friend who needs a reminder that she’s loved.
